Why some items can't go in a skip
Items like electricals, batteries, tyres, fluorescent tubes, paint and gas cylinders need to be disposed of separately and safely, so they can't be mixed in with general skip waste. Upholstered seating such as sofas and armchairs, mattresses, and fridges and freezers also have to be handled separately.
If you're unsure about anything, ask us before you fill the skip. It saves problems on collection day.
Tips for filling your skip
- Break down bulky items and flatten boxes to make the most of the space.
- Put heavy items at the bottom and lighter waste on top.
- Don't overfill: waste shouldn't go above the top of the skip, so it can be collected safely.

What can't go in a skip?

Can I put soil or hardcore in a skip?
Hardcore and soil can't go in our 5 and 6 yard skips. If you've got heavy waste like rubble or soil, call us and we'll point you to the right option.
Do I need a permit for a skip?
If the skip is going on your own driveway or land, you normally don't. If it needs to go on a public road or pavement, a skip permit is usually needed from the council. Let us know when you book and we'll talk it through.
